Listen to Podcast Episode 67: You Are His Delight
I’ve chosen this morning to listen to king David in Psalm 16. Listen with me, then I’ll give you a few brief reflections.
Keep me safe, my God,
for in you I take refuge.
I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord;
apart from you I have no good thing.”
As for the saints who are in the land,
“They are the glorious ones in whom is all my delight.”
The sorrows of those who increase who run after other gods.
I will not pour out their libations of blood
or take up their names on my lips.
Lord, you have assigned my portion and my cup;
you have made my lot secure.
The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
surely I have a delightful inheritance.
I will praise the Lord, who counsels me;
even at night my heart instructs me.
I have set the Lord always before me
because he’s at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
my body also will rest secure,
because you will not abandon me to the grave,
nor let your holy ones see decay.
You make known to me the path of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence,
with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
A few reflections this morning I offer you. It’s the kiss of peace from the heart of my Beloved, God reaching down to love me. This experience was planned for all to receive. I’ll never give up this love.
What is your delight, O Lord? I’ve been surprised to find it’s your children who love others just like you. You have made my lot secure; you’ve assigned me my cup. The boundary line is clear. It’s a pleasant place. I give thanks to God. I praise him in the morning. In the night, he counsels me. He instructs my heart. I set my mind to know him. His presence secures my soul.
I will not be shaken. The unseen God is real. My body rests secure. The path of life he makes known, death destroyed, joy is given. Yes, I am filled with joy. Eternal pleasures, the gift that begins in the present, in the secret place.
Well, there is a secret place. There is a dimension of life that if you don’t acknowledge it and be intentional about it, you just might miss that deep, deep joy that the God of this universe is just eager to give you and for you to discover that you are his delight. And if you’ll read Psalm 17, you’ll find that you are the apple of his heart because you’re loved.
All the best today,
